RESHOW

RESHOW is an empirical comment on a very specific topic: Waste from exhibitions.

Facing this topic as a field of action, in lieu of a problem, RESHOW recollect, refit, catalogue, storage & reallocate certain debris from exhibitions at cultural institutions, for its reuse in new non commercial exhibitions and any kind of cultural project.

RECOLLECT

Before the mounting/dismounting process of an exhibition at a private or public institution, antipodes café coordinates for defining specific materials that can be taken for their reuse instead of becoming garbage, being both surplus from montage or debris proper of a show.
In many occasions demounting teams from the institutions do not count with time to treat materials with care for a possible reuse, so antipodes café may participate actively in the demounting process.
Aiming coherence in all aspects of the project, from 2019, antipodes café start renting electric transport vehicles from existing collaborative initiatives.

REFIT

Cleaning, repair, dismantling, polishing edges, cutting imperfections, are activities proper of the recondition stage.

CATALOGUE

After classification, the creation of an inventory is fundamental to invite others to count with the materials, as well as to keep a clear order and not end up in useless accumulation, or even hoarding. In 2019 antipodes café aims to produce an accessible digital inventory online for allowing third parties to see, choose and coordinate appointments to pick the materials.

STORAGE

In early stages of this project, the storage was available spaces from construction sites and new buildings. From 2019, this storage will be the part of the project æHouse called æBod and will be open on Sundays afternoons prior appointment.

REALLOCATE

All collected materials are offered free of charge for new non-commercial cultural initiatives, such as exhibitions, urban interventions, cultural spaces, and so on. On return, all new users will share some comments and images of the new life of the materials, which will be hopefully reused anew once and again.

Same digital platforms of the inventory will include this comments and images from new users, as well as information of the collected materials in their original use, which will become clear references for new cases.

REUSE

As simple as to put back to work something with same intended function or a new one, giving a new life and meaning to an existing object. Reusing materials demands a playful level of creativity, inviting to re-formulate ideas according to possibilities.

To reuse is not to recycle. Recycling demands an “industrial” change to a product to turn it back into raw materials for the manufacture of new products.

In many occasions we as many other cultural producers write presentations for economic support, while in fact, the need are materials that can be accessible throughout coordination and dialogue. We are sadly surprise each time we see an exhibition, cultural project and/or creative and constructive workshops being developed just with all brand new materials.

Reusing materials instead of working with new ones, prevents pollution caused by reducing the need to harvest new raw materials or to recycle, saving lot of energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change, and amount of space of landfills and of other destinations, such as gyres of marine debris in world’s oceans.

Reused materials may include wood, screws, carpets, pedestals, displays, frames, printed fabrics, painting materials, vinyl, lighting and audio systems, publications, and way so many weird things with an extreme short life.
